What a Crazy Week

Enjoy this week's edition of the Planner's Beta

Beta (n) - climber's jargon that designates information about a climb This digest's purpose is to share observations, ideas, and treasures found this week which you may also find insightful. Sharing does not mean it's an endorsement. I am endorsing the pursuit of knowledge and exploration.

Something from Nate

Is now a good time to invest into the markets?

Something Fun

Epic Films for the Great Indoors (Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity) - Oregon State Parks and National Forests closed this past week. These closures don't mean you cannot enjoy the great outdoors from your couch! The Banff Center for Arts and Creativity shared available movies that are in the 2019 film festival. Experience some awesome outdoor adventures shot by some talented filmers.

Something About Financial Planning

Dissecting the Markets: WSJ Reporters Explain Last Week's Volatility (Wall Street Journal) - Many investors felt like they were riding a rollercoaster last week. We saw historic gains, big drops, and significant policy changes. The markets are trying to make sense of it all. Long-term investors try not to time the market. They make a plan, informed by their risk tolerance, need, and capacity, and make decisions based upon their plan. However, it is crucial to remain informed. Need a recap of a historic week. The WSJ short walks through each day of the week and that day's news.

Something about Investments / Economy

The U.S. Economy has Come to a Standstill, Satellite Imagery Shows (CNBC) - The U.S. weekly jobless claims hit over three million last week. This was a record. However, market participants are trying to use other forms of information to evaluate the impact of the coronavirus on the economy. This article from CNBC illustrates how satellite imagery and traffic data inform investors in a time when there is little official data available, and the situation is changing rapidly.
